It was an extremely unfortunate situation. A dear friend of Krista's just experienced a devastating house fire. Thankfully, he and his family are fine, but his insurance situation isn't. When he purchased his home, he had homeowners insurance in place. When it came time to renew the policy, his mortgage company didn't pay the premium. Now, he got all of the paperwork, the notices of cancellation, the payment reminders, but he didn't pay attention. His mortgage company placed insurance on the home for him, but that coverage covers fire and a couple of other perils only. No contents coverage, no loss of use, and no liability. These mortgage companies do not advise us when they've sold your mortgage to another company. If you ever get notice that your mortgage company has changed, it is imperative that you contact us to let us know so that we can make the proper changes to your insurance policy. If you get a notice from your insurance company that the policy is in jeopardy for whatever reason, be sure to contact us to discuss whatever correspondence you have received. Quite simply, PAY ATTENTION!!!
